Olaplex is a haircare brand that is a savior for damaged, dry, and frizzy hair. It works to repair damaged hair leaving it soft, smooth, shiny, and healthy.
Olaplex is a best-selling haircare line for a reason. It simply works. Olaplex’s current at-home haircare line is a bit pricey, but for those who love it, it is worth every penny.

With Olaplex’s success, many other haircare brands have come out with bond building haircare products that target damaged hair like Olaplex. A few brands have some excellent Olaplex dupes that are priced very reasonably.
So today, we’ll take a look at 15 affordable Olaplex dupes for frizzy & damaged hair.
Keep in mind that Olaplex has patents on their technology, processes, and formulations, so these haircare products won’t be spot-on alternatives, or dupes.
However, they are still very effective options that won’t break the bank.

Olaplex for Damaged Hair
Olaplex is a haircare brand that is known for its bond-building haircare products.
Their products work to repair broken disulfide bonds in hair to increase hair strength, improve elasticity, and protect against future damage.
How Olaplex Works
Disulfide Bonds
Disulfide bonds are present in our hair in the millions. They are found in the cuticle, cortex, and innermost layer of hair, the medulla (if present in the hair).
They provide structure and strength for hair. When disulfide bonds are intact and aligned, the result is gorgeous shiny, healthy hair.
So it should not be a surprise that when disulfide bonds in the hair are broken, the result is damaged hair. Broken disulfide bonds may produce frizz, thinning hair, dry hair, dullness, and split ends.
Olaplex’s Patented Ingredient: Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate
Olaplex’s patented ingredient that targets damaged hair and broken disulfide bonds is Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. A mouthful, for sure.
This single-molecule repairs hair from the inside out and improves hair strength by finding single sulfur hydrogen bonds and crosslinking them back together to form disulfide bonds.
This molecule works on all hair types, including natural, curly, fine, color-treated, textured, and straight hair, and hair with extensions. It addresses all kinds of hair damage.
Olaplex protects hair from damage that comes from using heat appliances such as curling irons, blow dryers, and flat irons.
Olaplex also protects your hair from damage caused by chemical treatments used on the hair, such as hair coloring and hair bleaching, as well as perms and relaxers.
It even repairs hair damage from mechanical factors like brushing, pulling, and tugging tangled hair.
It also works to repair damage from environmental factors like UV exposure, humidity, extreme temperatures, and pollution.

Revolution Haircare Hair Plex System
From the makeup and skincare brand Revolution Beauty comes Revolution Haircare products that offer their Plex system of haircare products that appear to be modeled after Olaplex.
Revolution Plex products from Revolution Haircare are formulated with a triple molecular weight protein cascade system.
This means that the products work on the different layers of your hair fibers to repair damage and strengthen your hair.
The system is formulated with three types of plant protein that work on different parts of the hair fiber for stronger hair.
Phytantriol and provitamin B5 hydrate the hair while conditioning compounds soften and smooth your hair for more shine, less frizz, and healthier hair.
These Revolution Haircare hair products are suitable for all hair types, are free of SLS/SLES, and are cruelty-free and vegan. Please note there is added fragrance in these hair products.
The entire Revolution Haircare line is much more affordable than Olaplex. If you want to try four Revolution Haircare products as I did, you can get them in a discounted set on Revolution Beauty’s website.

A dupe for Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo, Revolution Haircare Hair Plex 4 Bond Plex Shampoo is a gentle formula that deeply cleanses the hair while hydrating damaged tresses.

7. The Inkey List PCA Bond Repair Hair Treatment
Known for their effective and affordable skincare products, The Inkey List has expanded into haircare, and The Inkey List PCA Bond Repair Hair Treatment does not disappoint.
As an affordable alternative to Olaplex No.3, this fine spray mist hair treatment helps strengthen damaged hair bonds for softer, smoother, stronger hair with reduced frizz.
PCA (Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid) Bond Repair Hair Treatment is formulated with 10% Granrepair Powerbond that penetrates into the hair fiber to repair, strengthen and protect disulfide bonds from damage.
Per the manufacturer, the unique silicone composition helps reduce potential wash-off for better overall performance.

- 0.2% Aquarich: A blend of black oats rich in nourishing polysaccharides, and amino acids, that improves shine, split ends, and hair manageability.
- 2% Crodasone P: Protects the hair cuticle from thermal damage due to heat damage from hot tools, blow drying, etc…

If your hair deals with damage from heat styling, dye, or bleach, this lightweight spray will improve shine, bounce, and hair health.
Unlike Olaplex 3, which is applied before washing your hair, this hair treatment is applied post-wash on damp, towel-dried hair.
8. L’Oreal EverPure Bond Strengthening Shampoo, Conditioner and Pre-Shampoo Treatment
L’Oreal’s EverPure Bond Strengthening System helps strengthen weak hair bonds post-coloring. The bond repair system is formulated with citric acid to rebuild bonds inside the hair cortex.

L’Oreal EverPure Sulfate Free Bond Repair Pre Shampoo Treatment is a 5-10 minute rinse-off pre wash treatment designed for use prior to shampooing to strengthen hair and reduce breakage.
When you color and bleach your hair, damage occurs, causing your hair to become weaker and more fragile. L’Oreal EverPure Bond Strengthening Shampoo is an Olaplex shampoo dupe that helps rebuild the hair’s strength while nourishing and protecting it.
L’Oreal EverPure Bond Strengthening Conditioner repairs, strengthens and smooths hair with its lightweight formula.
The products are 100% sulfate-free and are also made without parabens, DMDM hydantoin, added phthalates, dye, and gluten ingredients.
They smell amazing with notes of White Tea, Cedar, Amber, Citrus, and Bergamot.
If you want to test out the trial sizes before purchasing the full size products, you can get this kit from Ulta.
9. BlondMe Keratin Restore Bonding Mask for All Blondes
From Schwarzkopf Professional comes BlondMe Keratin Restore Bonding Mask for All Blondes. This repairing treatment works on the internal structure of fragile, lightened, and colored hair.
It works for all shades of blonde, both cool and warm shades.
BLONDME’s Integrated Bonding Technology helps create new bonds and strengthens hair. This Olaplex dupe balances moisture levels and helps to detangle hair, making it easier to comb.
Hydrolyzed keratin smooths the surface for optimum shine and helps to reduce frizz and hair breakage.
This is an excellent alternative to Olaplex Conditioner. It really does smooth your hair and makes it more manageable and easier to comb and brush through.

10. pH Plex Protect, Repair & Stabilize Full Service Kit
PH Plex Protect, Repair & Stabilize Full Service Kit protects, repairs, and stabilizes hair with an easy 3-step process. This patented professional-grade product was developed for both at-home and salon use.
- Step one, pH Plex 1 Protect*, is formulated to protect hair from damage from the coloring/ bleaching process. It is formulated to match the same pH as coloring/bleaching products: a pH of 9.
- Step two, pH Plex 2 Repair, is formulated to repair damage and to bring hair and skin back to a normal pH level: a ph of 5. A concentrated natural active ingredient boosts hair health.
- Step three, pH Plex 3 Stabilize, is formulated for weekly use on all hair types. Formulated at the natural pH of hair and skin, this step will fortify the hair structure and rebuild the 3D bonds of your hair. It can also be used as a deep treatment for hair, strengthening it from the inside out.
The natural active ingredient in pH Plex is malic acid (sodium malate). Malic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid, a type of acid often used in skincare to exfoliate the skin.
PH Plex is dermatologically tested and externally verified to not react with hair color or bleach. PH Plex is vegan, colorants-free, ammonia-free, peroxide-free, perfume-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free.
The kit comes with (1) packet of pH Plex 1 Protect, (1) packet of pH Plex 2 Repair, and (4) packets of pH Plex 3 Stabilize.

You can combine steps 1 and 2 for an intensive treatment or apply step 3 once per week.
*You should never use Step 1 alone – you must mix it with other hair products. Please follow directions as instructed by the manufacturer.

While the oil feels slightly heavier on hair strands than Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil, this hair oil from Derma E leaves hair highly moisturized and replenishes frizzy, flyaway strands.
At less than half the price of Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil, this Olaplex alternative is affordable and effective.

More Olaplex Alternatives
If Olaplex doesn’t work for your hair or if you are simply interested in the latest in at-home bond repair haircare products, many new products are giving Olaplex a run for its money.
I’ve been testing these bond repair products and am quite impressed.
No, the following products are not Olaplex dupes because my definition of a dupe includes an affordable price tag.
These Olaplex alternatives are no more affordable than Olaplex (and some are even more expensive than Olaplex), but they are some of the most effective and best at-home bond repair products available:
Living Proof Triple Bond Complex
Living Proof Triple Bond Complex is a weekly leave-in treatment and hair mask formulated to strengthen hair and make it more resilient against future damage.
The treatment creates hair that is up to 8x stronger. It smoothes and softens your tresses while increasing shine.
This Living Proof treatment is a fantastic alternative to Olaplex No.3, as it builds all three types of hair bonds: hydrogen, ionic, and covalent bonds.
Its patent-pending technology creates a 3D network within hair strands. These newly built bonds create stronger hair that protects against future damage. Plus, it provides heat protection up to 450°F/232°C
You apply it AFTER shampooing and conditioning your hair, then wait 10 minutes before blow drying or using other hot tools so that it can penetrate the hair cortex.
After waiting 10 minutes, you can apply styling products. Heat activation (using a hair dryer) after the waiting period gives you the best results.
It’s suitable for all hair types and ideal for all kinds of hair damage, from virgin hair that is prone to breakage to damage due to overbleaching.
You’ll get immediate results and see reduced split ends, less breakage, and shinier, smoother, healthier hair.
It’s safe for color and chemically-treated hair. It’s safe for extensions, too.
Even though the bottle is only 1.5 oz, if used as suggested, the 1.5 oz Triple Bond Complex should last about 4 months. The pH is 4.3, and the scent is described as fresh citrus opening with a floral heart and a warm base.
Vegan, cruelty-free, silicon-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free.
Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate System
Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate System is an at-home bonding regimen that rebuilds and reinforces weakened bonds and strengthens all kinds of damaged hair.
The pH-balanced products work to bring your hair back into a healthy range of 4.5-5.5 and defend against heat-styling, chemical processing, and even water, which has a pH of 7.
While the pricing is comparable to Olaplex, the packaging is a bit larger than Olaplex, so you get more product for the price you pay per ounce.
I love the scent of these products, which have a light, fresh, almost fruity fragrance.
The fragrance is described as fresh citrus and floral fragrance with top notes of orange, bergamot, and marine, middle notes of freesia, peach and rose, and bottom notes of cedarwood, sandalwood, and amber.
NOTE: These products contain citric acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), which can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun, so it is important to wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure while using this product.
Like Olaplex, this is a multi-step system, which currently has four steps:
Step 1: Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Intensive Treatment
Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Intensive Treatment is an alternative to Olaplex No. 3, as it is a pre-shampoo treatment that is Redken’s most concentrated Bonding Care Complex product.
This rinse-out treatment strengthens and repairs your tresses in just one application.
It contains 14% Redken’s Bonding Care Complex, which contains citric acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that strengthens weekend bonds.
The treatment creates smoother hair with reduced breakage and 2X stronger hair.
Apply it to wet hair, wait 5-10 minutes, rinse and then follow with Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo and Conditioner.
Step 2: Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo
Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo is a sulfate-free bonding shampoo that offers color fade protection while repairing damage and nourishing the hair.
The rich shampoo creates a luxurious lather that rinses cleanly.
Formulated for all hair types, the shampoo’s concentrated bonding complex at a 7% concentration that contains citric acid, which strengthens your hair’s bonds for stronger, more resilient hair with less breakage and fewer visible split ends.
The shampoo is pH-balanced, specifically at an acidic pH, to protect against the effects of hair coloring, heat styling, water, and other environmental effects.
Step 3: Redken Acidic Perfecting Concentrate Conditioner
Follow the shampoo with Redken Acidic Perfecting Concentrate Conditioner for intense conditioning and color fade protection.
Like the shampoo, the conditioner is sulfate-free and designed to strengthen damaged hair with Redken’s concentrated bonding care complex at an 11% concentration that features citric acid.
Your hair will feel smoother, and you’ll have less breakage and softer, shinier, healthier hair. It helps tame frizz and protects from heat styling damage.
The conditioner is a great alternative to Olaplex Bond Maintenance Conditioner if it is too heavy for your hair.
Step 4: Redken Acidic Perfecting Concentrate Leave-In Treatment
The final step in Redken’s Acidic Bonding Concentrate regimen is Redken Acidic Perfecting Concentrate Leave-In Treatment.
Formulated with citric acid and Redken’s concentrated bonding care complex at a 5% concentration, this leave-in treatment repairs weakened bonds and improves hair health.
The treatment reduces frizz, increases shine, and decreases hair breakage. It’s formulated for all hair types and textures and offers heat protection up to 450 degrees F.
You apply it to clean damp hair as a leave-in product. It has the same luscious citrus and floral fragrance as the other products in the line, leaving your hair smelling as good as it looks.
It leaves hair soft, shiny, and sleek without weighing your hair down.
Acidic Bonding Concentrate Travel Kit for Damaged Hair
If you want to try these Redken products at a reduced price, you can buy Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Travel Kit for Damaged Hair.
This kit includes the shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in treatment in travel sizes without paying full price for each product. This is an excellent way to see if the products work for you without spending a lot of money!

K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask
There has been a lot of buzz about K18 haircare products lately, and for good reason. K18’s proprietary ingredient targets and repairs hair damage more extensively than Olaplex:
K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask is a leave-in hair treatment mask that reverses hair damage in just 4 minutes. Its patented peptide technology targets hair damage caused by heat, color, bleach, and other chemical services.
K18’s trademarked K18PEPTIDE (sh-Oligopeptide-78) works within your innermost layer of hair at a molecular level.
It reconnects polypeptide chains and disulfide bonds that are damaged and broken during chemical treatments, bleaching using hot tools, etc.
This biomimetic peptide mimics the natural structure of your hair to reconnect broken keratin chains, which gives our hair strength, elasticity, and shine.
It also reconnects broken disulfide bonds, so it is an even more complete treatment than Olaplex as it addresses damage on both the y-axis and x-axis of hair.
Apply it on damp hair after shampooing (skip your conditioner). Leave it on for 4 minutes, and then optionally, you can apply a leave-in conditioner or other styling products.
Results are typically seen after 2-3 uses. Your hair will be smoother, bouncier, and stronger and have less breakage and fewer split ends. It can be used on all hair types and is vegan and cruelty-free.
For more details on these products compared to Olaplex, see my K18 vs Olaplex post.
K18 Peptide Prep pH Maintenance Shampoo
K18 Peptide Prep pH Maintenance Shampoo cleanses your hair with a pH-optimized formula at a pH of 4.5-5.5.
This helps to prevent your hair cuticles from swelling and allowing water to enter, reducing unwanted frizz, dullness, and damage while maintaining color and shine.
The optimal pH also preserves your hair fiber and scalp microbiome for a healthier scalp.
This sulfate-free shampoo contains K18PEPTIDE, a trademarked biomimetic peptide that keeps your hair strong and healthy.
K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo
As an alternative to Olaplex No. 4C Bond Maintenance Clarifying Shampoo, K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo is a clarifying shampoo that removes product build-up, sebum, dirt, silicones, and copper.
It detoxifies hair, prepping it for K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask.
The shampoo contains the K18PEPTIDE, a proprietary active ingredient that maintains hair strength. The pH-optimized shampoo (at a pH of 3.8-4.2 ) is color-safe and won’t strip your hair.
This weekly treatment gently removes product build-up and dirt from your hair without using any fillers, leaving it fresh and clean.
Epres Bond Repair Treatment
From one of the original formulators of Olaplex comes epres Bond Repair Treatment. Unlike Olaplex, which offers multiple products and steps, epres utilizes a proprietary bond-building complex in an easy-to-use one-step spray.
The treatment strengthens, rebuilds, and protects disulfide bonds within the hair’s cortex.
Epres targets chemical, thermal, and mechanical hair damage for softer, stronger, healthier hair with less frizz. It uses Biodiffusion Technology, which continues to work for hours after application.
Epres’s highly concentrated, waterless formula contains only four 100% vegan, biodegradable ingredients: diethylhexyl maleate, oleyl alcohol, alcohol denat., and stearamidopropyl dimethylamine.
The Starter Kit comes with a spray bottle and 2 (15 ml) concentrated refills that are mixed with water prior to use.
This alternative to Olaplex No. 3 is sprayed on dry hair until saturated and left on for 10 minutes or more. It continues to work, so you can even leave it on your hair overnight while you sleep.
When you are ready, you can then rinse, cleanse, condition, and style your hair as usual.
Acid-free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

Apply this Olaplex hair treatment to dry hair, saturating hair for 10 minutes. No. 0 works as an intensive repair booster and pairs well with Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector (below) for deeply revitalized hair.
Do not rinse No. 0 before applying No. 3 over No. 0. Leave both on your hair for another 10 minutes. You can use No. 0 with No. 3 from 1-3x a week to treat damaged hair.
Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector
Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector is the best-selling product that made Olaplex a cult favorite. It reduces breakage and strengthens hair by repairing damage and protecting the hair’s structure.
Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate strengthens, protects, and restores damaged hair. It’s ideal for all hair types, including straight, wavy, curled, and coiled.
Olaplex points out that this is an at-home hair treatment, NOT a conditioner.
This Olaplex treatment should be applied to damp hair (or on top of Olaplex No. 0), combed through, and left on the hair for at least 10 minutes, preferably longer.
Then rinse your hair, shampoo, and condition. Use 1-3x a week to treat damaged hair.
Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo repairs, hydrates, and protects hair from split ends, frizz, and heat damage by relinking broken bonds in the hair with Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate.

Formulated for blonde, lightened, or grey hair, Olaplex No. 4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo is a highly concentrated purple shampoo that cleanses, tones, and repairs your hair while ensuring that your hair stays hydrated.
It neutralizes brassiness and increases shine with its sulfate-free formula. (My hair was so shiny after using this shampoo.)
Formulated for all hair types, you can use it 2-3 times a week.
Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner repairs, strengthens, and hydrates all hair types. Formulated at a pH of 4.0-5.0, this conditioner is very moisturizing, making it perfect for dry, stressed tresses.
Say goodbye to split ends and frizz, as Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate helps to relink broken bonds in the hair, leaving hair silky, smooth, and frizz-free.
You should apply this conditioner after shampooing, and it can be used every day or every time you wash your hair.
One of the must-haves from the Olaplex line of haircare products, it leaves your hair incredibly soft and smooth and is perfect to use during the heat and humidity of the summer months.
Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother

This Olaplex product also provides heat protection and UV protection up to 450 degrees F / 232 degrees C.
This hair oil is formulated with beta-carotene-rich grapeseed oil, vitamins D, C, and E, essential fatty acids, and polyphenols.
It also contains fermented green tea oil, a moisturizer and humectant, for better absorption and performance.
You need only a few drops to improve hair texture and smoothness. You can use it on both wet and dry hair or before styling your hair with heat appliances.
