Bondi Boost and Olaplex are two very popular hair care brands that offer a range of shampoos, conditioners, and other treatments that can help keep your hair looking great by repairing damage and adding shine.
But which brand is better for your hair? In this post on Bondi Boost vs Olaplex, we’ll look at the benefits of their shampoos, conditioners, serums, and hair masks for damaged hair to see how they compare.
I tested both brands and have some thoughts on their performance. I think I’m the ideal candidate to test these products because, unfortunately, I deal with loss of elasticity and hair damage.

Bondi Boost vs Olaplex
Olaplex hair products are formulated to repair damaged hair. Olaplex is known for its patented bond-building technology, which works to rebuild broken bonds in your hair.
Bondi Boost offers several lines within their brand that target hair concerns like hair thinning, hair loss, dryness, curly hair, itchy scalp and dandruff, frizz, oily hair, color toning, and hair damage.
Bondi Boost’s Rapid Repair products address hair damage, so this is the product line that we’ll compare to Olaplex.
While Bondi Boost Repaid Repair line contains four products, Olaplex currently offers ten products in their Bond Treatment System.
Both lines are fragranced. All Olaplex products have the same scent, a fresh citrus fragrance. Bond Boost shampoo and conditioner have a fresh scent, while the hair mask and serum have a lighter clean scent.
While each product will contain different active ingredients, the base of every Olaplex product is their patented bond-building molecule called Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate.
This ingredient rebuilds broken disulfide bonds, which provide structure, strength, and stability to your hair.
These bonds can be broken by chemical treatments like bleaching, styling, hot tools, aging, and even from environmental factors.
Olaplex products help strengthen your hair and prevent further damage, reducing frizz, split ends, hair breakage, and dullness. Olaplex products are beneficial for all hair types.
Bondi Boost Ingredients
Bondi Boost’s Rapid Repair line takes a more natural approach to repairing hair damage.
Bondi Boost’s Rapid Repair products work by using a Natural Functional Complex that seals the cuticle to strengthen dry, damaged hair.
They describe their hero ingredient as a “natural-based functional ingredient” that repairs damaged, dry hair. Their Rapid Repair products are safe for keratin, chemically and color-treated hair, and thinning hair.
Natural ingredients in Bondi Boost Rapid Repair products include:
- Panthenol: Increases hair elasticity.
- Macadamia Oil: Contains fatty acids that nourish and protect hair.
- Chamomile Extract: Calms and soothes the scalp.
- Aloe Vera: Helps seal in moisture.
Both brands are cruelty-free and vegan, and both are free of sulfates, parabens, and DEAs. Bondi Boost Rapid Repair products contain some certified organic ingredients.
Price and Packaging Comparison
Bondi Boost shampoo and conditioner come in pump bottles, while Olaplex comes in bottles with flip-top caps.
I prefer Bondi Boost pump bottles to Olaplex’s shampoo and conditioner squeeze bottles since they dispense the product more easily.
Bondi Boost’s hair mask comes in a jar, while Olaplex’s hair mask comes in a pump bottle. Olaplex’s serum and mask come in convenient pump bottles, similar to Bondi Boost.
When it comes to pricing, Olaplex is more expensive ounce for ounce.
While both brands are priced similarly, you tend to get much more product from Bondi Boost than Olaplex.
Bondi’s shampoo and conditioner are 16.9 oz., while Olaplex shampoo and conditioner are 8.5 oz. (Bondi Boost’s shampoo and conditioners are also available in smaller 10.1 oz bottles.)
Bondi Boost’s hair mask comes in an 8.45 oz. jar, while Olaplex comes in a 3.3 oz. pump bottle.
Bondi Boost’s serum is 4.23 oz. and is priced a few dollars less than Olaplex’s 3 oz. serum.
Bondi Boost vs Olaplex: Products
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Shampoo vs Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
These two shampoos target damage very differently. Olaplex treats damaged hair with its patented bond-building technology and Bondi Boost with natural ingredients.
That being said, they do share some ingredients like panthenol and sunflower seed oils.
Bondi Boost contains hydrolyzed quinoa protein, while Olaplex contains hydrolyzed vegetable protein to moisturize and improve hair shine and silkiness.
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Shampoo
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Shampoo is a low-lather gentle shampoo that is formulated for damaged, dry, and brittle hair types.
The shampoo increases hydration and moisture while removing dirt and impurities from the hair. It also adds shine, improves manageability, and protects against future damage.
The most concentrated ingredient is aloe vera leaf juice, a humectant and moisturizer.
Hydrolyzed quinoa protein is also an active ingredient that strengthens and protects hair follicles, reduces breakage, and increases shine.
Olive fruit oil, sea buckthorn fruit oil, linseed oil, and squalane nourish the hair and scalp.
Panthenol improves hair elasticity, while macadamia oil contains fatty acids that nourish and condition your hair and scalp. Chamomile extract soothes your scalp and strengthens your hair.
Gentle enough for daily use, Bondi Boost recommends the following hair washing schedule: normal hair 1-3x per week and dry hair 1x per week.
The shampoo is lightweight and rinses cleanly without weighing my hair down.
Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo, the #1 shampoo in Prestige Haircare, is a reparative shampoo that protects and repairs hair by re-linking broken bonds.
This Olaplex shampoo reduces breakage and repairs split ends, frizz, and other hair damage resulting in shinier, healthier, more manageable hair.
The star ingredient is Olaplex’s patented bond-building molecule Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate.
Other ingredients include rosemary leaf extract, which has antioxidant benefits that help protect hair from environmental damage Arctium lappa root extract, also known as burdock root, helps regulate an oily scalp.
Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid and a humectant that helps the hair to retain moisture.
Sunflower seed and apricot kernel oils help lock in moisture. The fermented filtrates of argan oil and green tea seed oil moisturize and condition hair.
This shampoo may be used daily or for every hair wash. The shampoo has Olaplex’s signature luxe citrus scent.
It’s very concentrated (you can see how it doesn’t run in the image below), so you only need a small amount to get a rich lather.
Olaplex shampoo is suitable for all hair types, helps tame frizz, and leaves your hair super sleek.
Which Shampoo Is Better?
Which has the most advanced technology to repair damaged hair? The winner, hands down, is Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo.
Olaplex’s bond-building formulas are the original bond repair products that leave damaged hair looking healthier, shinier, and more manageable.
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Shampoo is designed to boost moisture levels and strengthen hair with natural and organic ingredients. However, they don’t contain any of the revolutionary bond-building technology that Olaplex does.
If you prefer a more natural product, Bondi Boost is your best bet.
If you want the better damage repair product, Olaplex is the better choice.
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Conditioner vs Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
These conditioners target damage differently. Olaplex has a much thicker texture and feels heavier on your hair but offers advanced damage repair compared to Bondi Boost’s more natural ingredient list.
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Conditioner
Like Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Shampoo, Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Conditioner is formulated with natural and organic ingredients that smooth damaged cuticles by penetrating the hair shaft.
It prevents split ends from getting any worse and reduces them by up to 60% when used regularly.
So if you want longer hair and have dry, damaged hair that is constantly breaking, this conditioner is a great choice.
Like Rapid Repair Shampoo, the conditioner is enriched with aloe vera leaf juice, linseed oil, panthenol, hydrolyzed quinoa, squalane, sunflower seed oil, macadamia seed oil, and chamomile extract.
The conditioner also contains argan oil, known as the liquid gold of Morocco, which is especially beneficial for reducing dryness and frizz.
The conditioner has a lightweight texture and, like the shampoo, doesn’t weigh hair down.
Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner, the #1 selling Prestige conditioner, is a moisturizing and nourishing hair conditioner.
It’s formulated with Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, Olaplex’s patented molecule that helps repair and prevents damage to the hair.
The conditioner contains multiple plant oils to nourish and protect your hair, such as Crambe abyssinica seed oil, avocado oil, green tea seed oil, grape seed oil, and sunflower seed oil.
Multiple fruit extracts offer conditioning benefits, and hyaluronic acid helps retain moisture. Like No. 4 Shampoo, fermented filtrates of argan oil and green tea seed oil moisturize and condition the hair.
If you have damaged or broken hair with split ends and frizz, this conditioner will help repair and keep the hair cuticles smooth by re-linking broken bonds.
It also provides intense hydration, is color-safe, and leaves hair silky smooth, soft, and easier to manage.
Which Conditioner Is Better?
Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenanhas a very thick texture, which may feel heavy on fine hair.
Otherwise, most hair types will benefit more from Olaplex’s smoothing and reparative ingredients and its advanced bond-building technology that gives damaged hair fibers the boot.
The result is softer, smoother, shinier, and healthier hair.
Bondi Boost will be the better choice if you prefer natural and organic ingredients.
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Mask vs Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask
Both hair masks are formulated to provide deep conditioning to dry, damaged hair:
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Mask
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Mask turns up the volume on hair repair with its deep conditioning hair mask formula.
It is made with Bondi Boost’s proprietary formula, which contains natural-based actives that target dry, damaged hair.
This deep conditioner reduces hair breakage while strengthening your hair and protecting against heat damage.
Like the shampoo and conditioner, this mask contains natural and organic ingredients such as aloe vera leaf juice, panthenol, hydrolyzed quinoa, macadamia seed oil, and argan oil.
It also contains nourishing shea butter, a rich plant butter filled with antioxidants and vitamins. Shea butter hydrates your hair, locks in moisture, and soothes an irritated, flaky scalp.
The mask should be used once a week after shampooing your hair in place of conditioner.
This 10-minute treatment is suitable for all hair types, although dry, damaged hair will benefit the most from this mask.
It’s also safe for chemical and color-treated hair.
Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask
Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask is a highly concentrated reparative hair mask formulated with Olaplex’s proprietary Bond Building technology.
Olaplex’s clinical study found that the mask improves shine by 2x, moisture by 4x, and smoothness by 6x.
The mask is enriched with nourishing oils like avocado oil, rice bran oil, meadowfoam seed oil, safflower oil, and squalane.
Sodium hyaluronate hydrates while ceramides seal the hair cuticle. Panthenol improves hair elasticity while multiple amino acids, the building blocks of protein, strengthen hair and reduce breakage.
Like Bondi Boost, the mask should be applied once a week on clean hair after shampooing and should be left on your hair for 10 minutes to see the best results.
It’s formulated for all hair types, especially those with visible damage. The thick mask reminds me of the conditioner but is even more nourishing and concentrated.
Which Hair Mask Is Better?
I’m starting to sound like a broken record here, but once again, if you want a hair mask with better damage repair technology, Olaplex is the way to go.
On the other hand, if organic and natural ingredients are more important to you than advanced damage repair technology, Bondi Boost is the better option. Both masks are suitable for all hair types.
Regardless of which mask you choose, you should see improved softness, smoothness, and shine after use. But for more intense repair, Olaplex is the better choice.
When it comes to packaging, I prefer Olaplex’s easy-to-use pump bottle over Bondi Boost’s jar, which requires you to scoop the product out with your fingers.

Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Serum vs Olaplex No. 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum
Both lightweight hair serums are effective leave-in treatments for stressed, damaged hair:
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Serum
Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Serum is a leave-in treatment for dry, damaged hair that mends split ends and seals the hair cuticle with a natural-based functional active.
The serum repairs brittle hair in a lightweight, non-sticky, and non-greasy serum.
The serum contains Bondi Boost Rapid Repair line’s active ingredients like aloe vera leaf, juice, macadamia oil, and chamomile extract.
This hair serum doesn’t contain any silicones, so it won’t cause build-up. The result is super soft, smooth, and shiny hair. Hair diameter looks thicker, fuller, and healthier.
It’s lightly fragranced with a clean, fresh scent.
Olaplex No. 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum
Olaplex No. 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum is a weightless, silicone-free hair serum that protects hair from pollution for 48 hours and shields your tresses from heat damage up to 450°F (232°C).
The clear gel-like serum is formulated with OLAPLEX Bond Building Technology (Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate) to repair hair damage, along with red algae extract filled with protective antioxidants.
Additional active ingredients include sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of hyaluronic acid for hydration, and panthenol, a vitamin B5 derivative, for softness and improved elasticity. Moisturizing actives include betaine and anhydroxylitol.
This hair serum boosts softness, shine, style memory, and curl bounce back while reducing tangles and static.
The serum feels incredibly lightweight in my hair, almost like it’s not there at all! It leaves my hair super soft and manageable with brilliant shine. (This is my favorite Olaplex styling product.)
Formulated for all hair types, the serum should be applied from roots to ends on damp hair. I also use a small amount to touch up flyaways on my dry hair.
Which Hair Serum Is Better?
Both serums are super lightweight, non-sticky, and don’t leave your hair feeling greasy like a hair oil can.
Olaplex contains Bond Building Technology, while Bondi Boost contains natural ingredients to target hair damage.
This is a tough comparison because both leave hair soft, shiny, and smooth, but because Olaplex contains more advanced ingredients, No. 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum will be the better choice for damaged hair.
Olaplex OR Bondi Boost: My Pick
Olaplex products are suitable for all hair types, while Bondi Boost Damage Repair products are best suited for dry, thinning, colored, or damaged hair.
I’ve used Olaplex for years and have been testing Bondi Boost for the past few months on my straight, blonde, highlighted hair.
I struggle with the loss of elasticity, especially the hair around my face. Olaplex has really strengthened my hair.
While Bondi Boost leaves my hair soft, smooth, and with less frizz, I keep returning to Olaplex for its bond-building technology.
Their bond-repair products are some of the best on the market, and I see a noticeable difference after using Olaplex’s Hair Repair System.
But since everyone’s hair is different, what works for my hair type may not be the best for your hair type.
For example, my mom has fine hair and feels that Olaplex is a bit heavy for her hair. So if you have fine hair, you may find that Bondi Boost will nourish your hair without weighing it down.
The bottom line is if you’re looking for a product with the most advanced formula to repair and strengthen your damaged hair, then Olaplex is the superior choice.
Bondi Boost hair products are an excellent choice for damaged hair if you prefer to take a more natural approach.
If Olaplex is too expensive for you, you can always try a less expensive alternative. I’ve provided several in this Olaplex alternatives post.
