I’ve heard great things about the clean skincare brand Cocokind over the past few months, so I ordered a few products from their website to give them a try. Clean skincare is tricky because the products need to be effective while unwanted ingredients need to be excluded from the formula. And let’s not forget the price. Clean skincare can be expensive, even though you are often getting products with paired down ingredient lists.
I’m glad to see that Cocokind appears to find a balance between clean/sustainable and effective skincare. Their prices are affordable too. Before diving into the products, let’s take a look at the company philosophy.
Cocokind: Clean and Conscious Beauty
Cocokind was founded by Priscilla Tsai, a former investment banker, who was searching for a solution to her own hormonal acne and the digestive disorders that eventually resulted from prescriptions to treat her acne. This led her down the path of natural skincare and experimenting with natural ingredients.
Cocokind was soon born. The brand name comes from combining the words coconut and kind. Why coconut? Coconut oil was a common ingredient in her early products. Why kind? It is one of her favorite words.
Cocokind Pricing & Formulas
Cocokind products are formulated to be clean, effective, and conscious with a focus on sustainability. This is a clean skincare brand that walks the talk. All products are very reasonably priced, most at under $20, which is a pleasant surprise, as many clean skincare brands price their products at over $20 or even over $50 each.
Although Cocokind does not add any artificial fragrances to their products, they do add organic essential oils to some products to add a scent profile to them. Essential oils are always less than 1% of the formula. (The scent of most of the products that I tried leans toward natural and earthy, which I enjoyed in some products, but not in others.)
These products are safe to use during pregnancy but always check with your physician if you have any questions. Cocokind also has a line of baby products that are made for both babies and mothers that don’t contain any essential oils.
A Focus on Giving Back
In 2018 the Cocokind Impact Foundation was launched which provides financial grants to women-owned businesses in health, wellness, and sustainability industries who are focused on creating social impact through business.

Cocokind Oil to Milk Cleanser
Cocokind Oil to Milk Cleanser is formulated with an organic oil blend including organic sunflower seed oil (high in linoleic acid and vitamin E) and grapeseed oil (lightweight and rich in vitamins) plus baobab seed oil (which provides seals in moisture).
Glycerin acts as a humectant and draws moisture to the skin. Oat kernel oil, oat kernel extract, and lactobacillus ferment promote a healthy microbiome. This keeps our skin barrier healthy and balanced, allowing it to defend against irritation, inflammation, and other environmental aggressors. This complex also hydrates and increases the thickness of the stratum corneum layer of your skin.
Unlike many other cleansers/soaps which have a pH of 7-9, this cleanser has a pH of approximately 5.25. This falls within the slightly acidic range of our skin: 5.0-5.5. As a result, our skin barrier is supported and it can do its job of eliminating dirt and other impurities, protecting and balancing the skin, fighting against breakouts, acne, the signs of aging, and irritation. Ideal for all skin types, the gluten-free formula comes in a plastic-free tube. (It’s made out of sugarcane materials.)
Ideal As A First Cleanse
While you can use this balm cleanser both AM and PM, Cocokind Oil to Milk Cleanser is the perfect cleanser to use as a first cleanse to remove your makeup. To do a double cleanse, follow with a second water-based cleanser to clean your skin.
This cleanser has the benefits of an oil cleanse plus the feel of a traditional wash-off cleanser. The thick smooth oil balm is easily dispensed from the tube. You apply it to dry skin and add water. Once it comes into contact with water it emulsifies and turns into a milky cleansing wash. Rinse and pat dry (I rinse with a washcloth).
This balm cleanser is so easy to use. You flip the cap and dispense the oily serum-like balm onto your fingers and then apply to your face. You don’t have to mess around with scooping it out of a tub like most other balm cleansers.
I still love my Heimish cleansing balm and a newer favorite cleansing balm, but this cleanser is hands-down my favorite Cocokind product that I tried. It cleans my skin leaving it soft and smooth without leaving any greasy residue.

Cocokind Rosewater Toner
Cocokind Rosewater Toner is formulated with rose hydrosol, which is made by steaming rose petals. Officially, there is one ingredient in this toner: Rosa Damascena flower water, and it is USDA certified organic. This flower water toner will hydrate and calm the skin while balancing the skin’s pH.
After cleansing, you can spray this toner directly onto your skin or onto a cotton pad and swipe it across your face. It also can be used to set makeup or as a refresher on the skin throughout the day.
This toner is very refreshing, but I didn’t think that it did much for my skin. I am not a huge fan of toners that are spritzed directly onto your face, so I use a cotton pad to apply this toner. It has a floral fragrance and is light and non-irritating.
Cocokind Turmeric Tonic
Cocokind Turmeric Tonic may be just what you need if you deal with acne, breakouts, dark spots, and post-acne scarring. It is a leave-on spot treatment that goes on clear and is invisible under makeup. It is a clean, vegan alternative to traditional drying spot treatments.
This treatment supports a clear, even skin tone and complexion. It contains organic turmeric extract to reduce the appearance of dark spots, uneven skin tone, and puffiness. It also contains tea tree oil and witch hazel extract to decongest and balance the skin. Broccoli seed oil, rich in beta-carotene, fatty acids, and vitamins A and E, moisturizes the skin.
One of the great things about this product is the rollerball applicator. You don’t have to mess with creams or sprays. You just roll it directly onto your skin and after cleansing and toning, and before essences, serums, and moisturizers.
Lucky (or unlucky) for me, I had a breakout on my chin (thanks to wearing a mask), so this product came along just at the right time. It’s non-irritating and I must admit, the morning after applying this treatment, my blemishes were smaller and redness was reduced. It’s insanely easy to use and would be perfect for travel. I really like this treatment and will be adding it to my skincare routine on an as-needed basis.
Cocokind offers another product for acne that pairs well with its Turmeric Tonic: Turmeric Spot Treatment Stick. The stick will target and reduce acne-causing bacteria and inflammation.
Cocokind MyMatcha Moisture Stick
Cocokind MyMatcha Moisture Stick is an organic multi-tasking moisture stick that can be used on dry spots, under your eyes, and on your lips. It contains only three organic ingredients.
Organic coconut oil, rich in vitamin E and amino acids, will nourish and moisturize your skin. Organic beeswax will protect your skin by creating a barrier to seal in moisture. From Japan, organic matcha tea powder will protect your skin from environmental stressors thanks to its antioxidant properties.
You can use this stick on an area often in need of moisture: under your eyes. You can give dryness the boot with this moisture-rich formula. The organic matcha tea powder in this stick also contains caffeine which is helpful in reducing the appearance of dark circles and puffiness under your eyes.
I love multi-tasking products and this is a good one. I personally reach for this stick all the time for keeping my lips moisturized and soft. It’s larger than your typical lip balm tube – so much better than Chapstick! There’s no greasy or sticky feel. Just pure moisture.
NOTE: When Cocokind sources their beeswax, ethical treatment of bees is practiced, and environmental standards for organic beekeeping are enforced.
Cocokind Texture Smoothing Cream
The last product that I tried is Cocokind Texture Smoothing Cream. This lightweight face cream is formulated to reduce the look of fine lines, pores, and rough patches of skin. It hydrates and restores density to the skin.
This cream contains a celery superseed complex comprised of flax and celery seed extracts. This duo helps to firm and tone the skin while supporting skin density. It goes to work on uneven skin texture and helps to reduce the appearance of pore size. Tsubaki seed oil targets the signs of aging and supports the skin barrier, while ginseng root extract balances the skin.
I wanted to love this cream. There are certain things about the cream that are really nice, like the lightweight silky texture and the smooth natural finish that it leaves on my skin. I just can’t get past the fragrance. I immediately noticed a cucumber fragrance after applying, which makes sense since cucumber fruit water is the second item on the ingredient list.
This may work for you if you are less sensitive to fragrance than me. Its natural ingredients are gentle on the skin and work to treat the signs of aging.
Final Thoughts on Cocokind Clean Skincare
Cocokind clean skincare products were hit and miss with me. I absolutely loved the Oil to Milk Cleanser, Turmeric Tonic, and MyMatcha Moisture Stick. I could take or leave the Rosewater Toner and unfortunately, the fragrance of the Smoothing Cream was too strong for my somewhat sensitive nose.
All of these Cocokind clean skincare products are available at Ulta.
